The advertising promise of a complete identity is reversed here into fragmentation, because every form of presence depends on how it is displayed and made desirable. In the Advertising series, Zampogna does not oppose the authenticity of the individual to the falsity of commercial communication. Instead, he tests how both are produced by codes of visibility. The person, what clothes her and what is offered to the gaze as nudity do not form a story or define a unified subject. They become adjacent registers through which “real reality” and “media reality” emerge as mutually implicated constructions.

The division into three contiguous fields interrupts any narrative continuity and grants equal prominence to the figure, the suspended garment and the naked back. This equivalence does not erase their differences, but converts them into distinct ways of presenting and consuming an identity. The chromatic separation intensifies the shift between codes: red absorbs the figure into an almost monochrome imprint, the dark jacket acquires the impersonal autonomy of a product, while the luminosity of the flesh turns the body into a smooth and partial surface. Screen printing ink and oil keep the discontinuity between reproduction and painting perceptible, yet prevent either medium from claiming a monopoly on artifice or presence.

The work thus carries Zampogna’s research beyond the simple intrusion of advertising imagery into everyday life. The person herself becomes inseparable from the devices that select, clothe and render her desirable. Even nudity, which might promise immediate access to the body, appears as cropped and prepared for viewing as the garment on its support. The viewer is left not with an identity to reconstruct, but with a sequence of equivalent appearances in which the boundary between individual, commodity and representation loses all stability.
