In Untitled, the promise of luck invades identity until the person becomes a figure subjected to the impersonal grammar of the game. At the beginning of the «Scratch & Win» series, Zampogna transfers the language of the instant ticket onto canvas and enlarges it until it becomes an environment. Gambling appears not simply as a subject, but as a device that organises the relationship between desire and presence: the body enters the commercial promise and assumes its precariousness. The earlier contamination between “real reality” and “media reality” thus reaches a further stage, since the promotional code no longer merely overlaps the figure, but establishes the conditions under which it can appear.

The monochrome, translucent figure is penetrated by the purple field and the repetition of silhouettes and tankards, losing individual substance while acquiring the anonymity of an already printed image. The frontal pose preserves the evidence of portraiture, but does not restore a complete identity: the subject appears to be registered by the graphic system just as the ticket registers symbols, combinations and prizes. Above, “CACCIA AL PROVERBIO” turns common knowledge into a competitive formula; below, “Attenzione! Non grattare qui” blocks the very gesture that should confirm a win. Promise and prohibition work together, making impossible verification the permanent condition of desire.

The work clarifies the ironic and tragic character that gambling assumes in Zampogna’s research. The hope of economic change does not open onto a future, but assigns the person a provisional place within a machine of signs, instructions and declared prizes. Even the proverb, a shared form of experience, is absorbed by commercial communication and reduced to a remunerated riddle. What remains for the viewer is not the possibility of luck, but an identity suspended between recognition and erasure, compelled to desire according to rules it cannot verify.
