Giocagiò 1 turns the promise of fortune into a closed system in which the individual is assessed by the game but cannot truly play. In the «Scratch & Win» series, Zampogna expands the ticket’s code until it becomes the space of experience itself: the roulette offers no possible decision here, only a grammar that assigns values, prizes and combinations to an already captured presence. The playful formula “GIOCAGIÒ” retains the imperative tone of promotion, while “The Roulette” gives the device an international and impersonal identity. The hope of winning thus appears as a language available even before individual desire takes shape.

The structure of two sheets separates the wheel from the figure and interrupts the continuity required for a playable game. On the first, numbers, amounts and the circular repetition of “VINCI” revolve around an abraded centre that replaces the outcome with an opaque zone. On the second, numbers and geometric signs surround and cross the body, turning the person into a variable within the same commercial syntax. The prevailing pink unifies these registers without reconciling them: photographic image, slogan and monetary notation appear equivalent, yet produce neither narrative nor rule. Even the prize, announced and measured, remains inaccessible.

The work carries Zampogna’s contamination of “real reality” and “media reality”, developed after Artmedia, to a radical consequence. The subject does not simply inhabit the iconography of gambling: he is classified by it, as if identity and economic value belonged to the same numerical series. In relation to the mediocre catharsis evoked by the scratchcard, irony arises here from the device’s operational impossibility. Everything promises a game, but the arrangement of fragments prevents it from beginning. What remains is an image of administered desire, in which fortune does not open the present to change but closes it within formulas prepared in advance.
