In this work, the promise of good fortune does not offer the person a way out, but recodes them as a provisional element in an impersonal draw. In the «Scratch & Win» series, Zampogna transfers the grammar of gambling onto ordinary life, turning the possible prize into a media mythology capable of assigning roles, expectations and identities. The subject does not simply appear before an enlarged ticket, but is placed under its regime of numbers, checks and coincidences. The hope of economic catharsis survives, though only in the devalued form of a combination still awaiting confirmation.

The overlap between the monochrome person and the ticket’s yellow field absorbs the body into the graphic continuity of the game, turning an individual presence into an available surface. Screen printing ink introduces the anonymous hardness of a reproducible code, while painting preserves a residual density in the figure that cannot release it from the device. Behind the person, the apparatus formed by the cage of balls and the sequence of drawn numbers converts chance into an apparently legible procedure: the draw promises that every outcome can be checked, yet the correspondence remains incomplete. The person thus occupies the ambiguous position of both participant and possible prize, addressed by the promise while also becoming the object of its classification.

The work carries the contamination between «real reality» and «media reality» that runs through Zampogna’s practice to a further consequence. Here, the promotional code does not simply interrupt the figure, but organises the space in which it can appear and even be recognised. The game produces an identity founded on expectation, valid only while the outcome remains suspended. What confronts the viewer is not the imminence of good fortune, but a contemporary condition in which personal desire becomes legible only through impersonal procedures that sustain it without fulfilling it.
