Poker turns the promise of winning into a device that assigns the individual a provisional value, calculated by the same commercial graphics that claim to offer a way out. In the «Scratch & Win» series, Zampogna expands the language of the ticket until it becomes the space of experience: gambling appears not as a mere object, but as a code capable of organising identity, desire and expectation. Poker, founded on a hierarchy of combinations, thus gives an especially clear form to the mediocre economic catharsis examined by the series. The possibility of a prize seems to depend on a predetermined order in which the person, too, must find a place.
The monochrome red figure interrupts the impersonal code of the game through its presence, yet the chromatic continuity with the background reabsorbs it into the promotional surface and weakens its autonomy. It is no longer clear whether the subject stands before the ticket or has become one of its printed images. Behind it, the enlarged cards translate luck into a recognisable combination, while the partly erased panels introduce the act of verification without disclosing its outcome. Even the prize announcement, reduced to a textual fragment, keeps wealth suspended as a possibility. Screen printing gives words, numbers and symbols an impersonal hardness that contrasts with the vulnerable persistence of the painted body.
The work brings the contamination between «real reality» and «media reality» into an economy of assignment: the subject exists insofar as it can be associated with a winning sign. Compared with other works in the series, the promise here does not merely address a generic recipient, but takes on the competitive structure of poker, where every value depends on comparison and combination. The irony of the graphic apparatus does not soften the condition represented. It makes it consumable and immediate, and therefore more radical: escape from the present is entrusted to a system that, even before distributing the prize, has already turned the person into a stake.
