La tua carta

La tua carta turns the individual promise of gambling into a device that assigns the body the precarious identity of a prize still awaiting verification. In the «Scratch & Win» series, Zampogna does not simply represent gambling, but transfers the grammar of the promotional card onto the person: the individual is addressed as the recipient of possible good fortune and, in the same gesture, reduced to an element within an impersonal system. The hope of economic change thus assumes the form of an incomplete contract, addressed to anyone but guaranteed to no one.

The crouching figure disrupts the regularity of the graphics by introducing weight, hesitation and physical presence; yet the contracted posture keeps her in a state of expectation, almost as if she too were a panel to be interpreted. The words «LA TUA CARTA» and «PREMIO» appear to assign her a value, but do not clarify whether they identify her as beneficiary or stake. Below, the warning «ATTENZIONE! NON GRATTARE QUI» turns the scratchcard’s customary invitation into a prohibition: the place where the prize should be revealed coincides with what cannot be touched. The mixed media on paper preserves the discontinuity among body, words and graphic fields, preventing these registers from resolving into a stable scene.

The work brings the contamination between «real reality» and «media reality» that runs through Zampogna’s practice to a particularly clear conclusion. The person does not merely inhabit the commercial image, but receives from it her position, value and possibility of recognition. The irony of the impossible command then exposes the series’ tragic register: the promise of emancipation survives only as a suspended procedure, while identity is measured according to the anonymous logic of the prize.
