Jackpot turns the promise of winning into a rule superimposed on everyday life, within which the individual appears as both recipient and stake of the game. In the «Scratch & Win» series, Zampogna does not simply represent gambling, but adopts its language as a form for organising experience. The announced prize offers ordinary presence a possible way out while reducing it to a measurable combination. Square, portrait and commercial code no longer constitute separate registers: “real reality” and “media reality” coincide on the same surface, as if desire could be read only through the conditions imposed by the game.

The figure interrupts the word “jackpot”, yet her frontality is absorbed by the same commercial grammar she appears to oppose. It is impossible to establish whether she is a player, winner or mere passerby, and this indeterminacy deprives the subject of an autonomous history. The fruit combinations and prize table turn urban space into a verification card that can no longer be used: enlargement preserves the promise while suspending any actual possibility of playing. Acrylic and screen printing ink make the instability of presence coexist with the impersonality of print. Red drips extend cherries and lettering downwards, compromising the colours’ conventional cheerfulness and allowing a sense of loss, which the prize cannot compensate, to emerge within the advertising appeal.

The work thus carries the series’ irony towards an outcome that is both ordinary and tragic. Wealth appears not as possession, but as a spectacular figure placed before a life continuing amid traffic and urban anonymity. The promise of five hundred euros assigns an explicit price to hope without providing any verifiable result. Zampogna thereby presents a contemporary condition in which economic catharsis is already impoverished: the subject is granted no real transformation, only the provisional role offered by the language of the game.
