Dado Matto 2 turns the promise of fortune into a grammar that invades ordinary life, yet leaves it motionless before combinations without an outcome. In the Scratch & Win cycle, Zampogna does not merely represent the desire to win: he enlarges the lottery device until it becomes the perceptual environment within which an individual presence must find a place. Title, symbols and instructions retain the persuasive immediacy of the ticket, while their expansion across the canvas cancels its use. Possible wealth no longer leads to a prize, but organises expectation and translates experience into probability.

The red die, enlarged until it becomes an almost organic mass and fractured by drips, loses the precision of a symbol of chance. Rather than indicating a rule, it introduces an unstable energy into the field, at once seductive and threatening. The grayscale figure only apparently opposes this alteration, held frontally within an urban scene that seems to belong to the continuity of everyday life. Yet combinations of dice, calculations and sums of money interrupt that continuity and subject the person to the impersonal syntax of calculation. The words «DADO MATTO», suspended like a brand, also connect the name of the game to a loss of measure: chance promises movement, but produces immobility.

The work thus brings to a clear point the contamination between «real reality» and «media reality» that runs through Zampogna’s research. The commercial code does not remain superimposed on the scene as external commentary, since it redistributes its hierarchies and rhythms, making body, money and sign equivalent. Against the scratchcard’s ephemeral function, the scale of the canvas makes lasting precisely what the game would consume within moments: not a possible win, but the imagination’s dependence on a mediocre catharsis. The viewer is left with a present in which fortune is legible everywhere yet never truly available.
